About the Author…

Wife, mother, writer, traveler, Chef Melanie Savage

Hey y’all! I’m the author and editor of the CC network. I’m a wife, mother, professionally trained and experienced chef. I have lived in Charleston and the metro area of South Carolina since the 1990’s. My husband and I are from the Carolina’s and know how special this region is. Travelers at heart, we’ve tried dishes across the country. We are passionate about this special nook of America we are from and its scrumptious cuisine. The seafood, meats, variety of nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, crafted batches of fruity liquors and wines, and even tea of the Carolina’s are the finest America has to offer. I truly love getting to write about these foods and present them as approachable in easy-to-make recipes written to serve two or more.

My passion for good food, nutrition and cooking began as a teen in rural North Carolina. Growing up in an agriculture-driven county, gardens and produce stands are common sites. My dad made sure the soil was tilled and rows were plowed to ready the garden for another season of producing healthy crops each year. I graduated NCSU College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and Johnson & Wales University with a Culinary Arts degree while cooking in fine dining restaurants, hotels, and country clubs along the Charleston historic peninsula. I also take continuing education courses for Human Nutrition and Medical Nutrition Therapy. As a teenager, I volunteered at a hospital as a candy-striper and cooked for a wheelchair-bound lady. Twice a week I visited her and provided refrigerated meals to eat during the week along with some other tasks. Those acts planted a seed of gratitude, caring, and hospitality that I carry today. Whether I am writing recipes or cooking for two or two hundred, love and attention to detail are key. Ensuring food safety is, of course, crucial!

Carolina Cuisine Network aims to showcase true Southern ingredients and recipes of North and South Carolina. These recipes are intended to use local ingredients and have easy-to-follow directions for cooks of any skill level. Many recipes are written to serve two, making it easy for single cooks to prepare instead of batch cooking. If more servings are desired, simply double or triple the recipe as needed. Discover recipes from Boone, NC to Hilton Head, SC and everywhere in between. Find tips, Vegetarian options, and substitutions on recipes when available.
