These healthy fish fillets make weeknight dinner at home easy and quick- about 15 minutes! You can’t get much healthier protein than air-fried fish and this recipe hit the mark. It has all the Southern flavor without the oily mess of traditionally fried fish and the nutrition. Let’s go Omega-3!
Ingredients
- 2 Fish fillets; catfish, flounder, trout, or whiting
- 1/2 cup Cornmeal, yellow or white
- 1/4 cup Flour; wheat, all-purpose or almond for gluten-free fish dinner
- 1 teaspoon Lawry’s seasoning salt or your favorite
- 1/2 teaspoon Paprika or Old Bay seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
- 1 Egg, beaten well with a dash of hot sauce
- Olive oil spray
Directions
- Preheat Air Fryer to 400 degrees F: Pat fish fillets with paper towel and lay on a plate in a single layer.
- Assemble Breading: Gather all seasonings, cornmeal and flour together and stir to combine.
- Coat Fillets: Dip the fillets in egg and then in the breading mixture. Allow the extra liquid to run off before adding to dry ingredients. Pat the coating onto the fillets to coat well.
- Prepare Air Fryer Basket: If desired, lightly spray basket with olive oil spray or line basket with paper liner and spray top of fillets. Lay fillets flat in single layer if possible.
- Cook and Serve: Cook the fillets 8 to 10 minutes, turning halfway through cooking. Check for doneness with a food thermometer. Serve with lemon wedges and tartar sauce or an herbed remoulade sauce.
Notes:
Options for side dishes include Southern fried green tomatoes, Carolina coleslaw, slow cooker macaroni and cheese casserole, fluffy biscuits, boiled peanuts, Lowcountry seafood boil, and fresh-brewed sweet, iced tea.
